Twitter is planning to start charging $20 a month for verification, in order to combat spam and abuse on the platform.
Twitter has been plagued with spam, abuse, and conspiracy theories for years, and this new verification fee is meant to help combat these problems. Twitter users will have to pay $20 a month to verify their account, and the fee will go up after each year of verification.
This fee will only be charged to verified accounts, so regular users won’t have to pay anything extra. Twitter says this new verification process will “find and prevent abuse, spam, and bots,” and “help keep Twitter a healthy and civil experience for everyone.”
